Arkansas Team Not
Trying
To Impersonate Tennesseans
By Ron Cioffi, USTA Southern
The goal was the color of coral, defined
by Webster's Dictionary as "a
deep pink." That's the shade these 6.5 Arkansas women wanted
for their jackets. So Maggie Guinn went online
to order the team attire. "Just make sure it's not Tennessee orange,"
was the instruction from teammate Dione Goad. Opps!
Now the team from the Jonesboro Country Club is definitely
representing Arkansas but masquerading as Tennessee Volunteers.
Yes, the jackets did come arrive in an orange so bright it may have
these ladies singing "Rocky Top." The orange was
so strong that they joked that it looked like caution tape.
"Let's put a slogan on the jackets: 'Caution
Flying Balls,' quipped one member. "They even added the flame,"
noted Guinn. They also call themselves the
Geeks. One of their Louisiana-native women sent a text saying "geaux"
but the automatic speller changed it to "geeks."
So, this upbeat, enthusiastic team proudly displays the wrong color
and the term "geeks" belies these lovely ladies. |
