WHAT: Competition among the South's best Southern Combo Doubles teams in 14 adult and 8 senior divisions   (approximately 190 teams total). 

WHO: Over 1,700 Southern Combo Doubles tennis players from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee who have won their state championships.

WHEN: Play begins Friday, Jan. 22 and ends Monday, Jan. 25, 2010.

MATCH FORMAT: Three doubles matches for each team match are played in round robin competition.  Each division has two groups with five teams in the round robin competition, with group winners meeting in the finals. If a team has an unknown default, the opposing team will have the opportunity to take their scorecard back and resubmit a lineup.

HISTORY: Southern Combo Doubles is the USTA Southern Section’s fastest growing adult league with over 40,000 players.  The program is open to women and men 19 years and older.  Players from over 100 cities in the nine southern states experience the camaraderie and competition as play progresses through local, state and sectional competition.

SPONSORS: The tournament is presented by the USTA Southern Section in cooperation with strong local volunteer support. Mini and Dunlop and are the tournament sponsors of the Southern Combo Doubles Southern Section Championships.

A not-for-profit organization, the USTA is divided into 17 sections, of which the USTA Southern Section is the largest. The 160,000+ USTA members living in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee make up the USTA Southern Section, which accounts for more than 25% of the total USTA membership. A professional staff housed in Norcross, GA carries out the USTA Southern Section’s daily operations, but policy is formed and much of the organization’s work is executed via a Board and committee structure of over 200 volunteers.
